They still don't get Ted? Inconceivable!

It's shocking that a stalwart political website like Politico could be so... stupid.  This afternoon, it posted an article about Ted Cruz's actions this week on the Senate floor.  They soooooo do not understand the junior senator from Texas!

"The showdown was triggered by an attempt by Cruz (R-Texas) and Lee (R-Utah) to employ arcane Senate procedures to take a tougher stand on Iran and to defund Planned Parenthood. Republican leaders led by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) viewed the move as an affront to Senate rules and squelched the effort in dramatic fashion — an embarrassing setback for two of the chamber’s most conservative members."

How can the supposedly savvy political writers totally miss the reality that it is IMPOSSIBLE to level an embarrassing setback to Ted Cruz?  He takes wins & losses & puts them to his advantage.  And I expect Mike Lee will respond with similar lobs - neatly turning back across the net whatever gets smacked to him.

Both senators believe now is the time for the party to use its majority to advance key elements of the conservative agenda. Republicans close to the party leadership are wary: Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) argued that such tactics would undermine the “regular order” and institutions of the chamber.
And Cruz’s Texas colleague pointedly shot down his effort. Sen. John Cornyn, the GOP’s chief vote-counter, called Cruz’s strategy “a terrible mistake” and urged Republicans to vote against it, a rare public disagreement.

“If the rule that the junior senator from Texas is arguing for is embraced, we will lose all control of the Senate schedule. There will be chaos,” Cornyn said. “Any senator who wants to get a vote on an amendment will be entitled to do so and that can’t be the rule. It’s not the rule. It’s never been the rule.”

EXACTLY.  It’s not the rule. It’s never been the rule.

Ted Cruz was elected by people who thirst for him to undermine the regular order, to dislodge the established Senate schedule, to create & run with his own rules.

Gentlefolk of the political press - Senator Cruz doesn't represent anyone but his constituents back in the great Lone Star state. You report Sen. John Thune (R-SD) tut-tutting ~ "That's really problematic.  It's going to make it impossible to get anything done in the Senate." ~ Ted's behavior while forgetting to note that those very behaviors are what have made the the junior senator anything but a back bencher.

The talking heads & political pundits of Foggy Bottom still don't understand what makes Ted run?  Inconceivable!  (And I do know what the word means!)  It's all about...
