Wow! Bonsai is a role model for making the most of all you are & a forever reminder of what can happen with love, support & the determination of a bulldog - even if he is just a puppy!
Born to English Bulldog breeders in Arkasas, the pup is now at home in Fort Worth, TX, at Friends of Emma, a private rescue home.
Among
other life-threatening problems, Bonsai was born with caudal regression
and sacrocaudal dysgenesis, resulting in half a spine, no functional
pelvis & tiny contracted hind legs. The hind legs were amputated to reduce
pressure, but he can't stand on his front legs due to “Swimmer Puppy” syndrome (pectus excavatum).
It's
good that English Bulldogs were bred for fighting, because this amazing
pup has a long road ahead - while Swimmer Puppy syndrome is reversible with time & therapy, there isn't a cure for his deformed spine &
pelvis. Bonsai still faces treatment his internal problems, requiring
costly diagnostic testing, including $$$ advanced imaging procedures
& multiple MRI scans.
Increasing his vets' challenges - no one's been able to locate any documented cases of his specific conditions. That improves his chances at getting the best of care, but handicaps the vets in knowing what to do.

Small wonder that Bonsai's Facebook page has almost 30,000 likes! It features dozens of
pictures of of the peerless pooch having a doggone great time, in spite of his challenges. As Bored Panda puts it - Bonsai might have half the body, but is lapping up twice the love! (Personally, I'd peg it as way higher than half!)
When I'm griping about this or that, feeling down in the dumps, or dragging my heels, will think of Bonsai, shake off the blues & redouble my efforts.
A more tangible to honor the plucky pup - contribute toward the crowdfund request submitted in Bonsai's behalf!
Check out Bonsai's handstand!
To quote from the Huffington Post - Despite all the challenges, the little pooch seems to be living life to
the fullest. (Elizabeth Hart, one of Bonsai's rescuers) told HuffPost that he brings a lot of joy to the
rescue home with his spunky spirit. He's even become famous for a new
trick -- the handstand.
Blessings on Bonsai, his 2-legs & all the fabulous folks at Friends of Emma!!
