Perfect day for unpeeling the first floor - grey, raw weather is just what I needed to enjoy uncluttering, clearing out & reconfiguring storage space, making hearts to hang from the mixture of clear & pink lights lining the upper edge of the living room wall. Cozy work for a yucky day.
The Christmas wall worked so well, we decided to leave the lights up & change what hangs down with the season, so valentines for the next few weeks, followed by butterflies (which might stay up to next December).
Took a lifetime, but the living room looks just the way I've wanted it - well organized yet warm, cozy, welcoming.
It is a sacrifice to have the rooms look the way both of us prefer. Tables, shelves & counters covered with stuff meant no swatting cats off the surfaces. We're willing to put up with the bother!
Switching things between the china cabinet & the hutch cabinet. If they're used regularly - into the easy access china cabinet (converted by Mom's grandfather from an old organ casing); basically being stored - over to the hutch.
The long row of Christmas books that formed a literary hill for sledding stuffies will be back to their Jan-mid Nov place of honor on a bookshelf next to the fireplace. Will scan the rest of the books & decide if any need new homes elsewhere - like to keep the ones in the living room books that deeply connect with us.
The art files/computer studio has been the place for business books, but it's getting overhauled into a more peaceful space, repainted a warm red to make a suitable backdrop for a wonderful LARGE painting by a friend & artwork by other amigos. Come summertime, will look VERY different, reconfigured in look & revitalized in usage.
The summer-fall project for the kitchen is a new stove & microwave. Finally! Years ago, a friend told me to get a new stove & she'd pay for it. I tried to pry a maximum $$ out of her, but she didn't give any limits. Sure enough, when I figured what was needed, rather than what I was okay with settling for, it was too $$$. Instead of getting what I could afford rather than what I needed, got the portable oven & started saving. Yes, it's ironic we're getting a full-size stove when I'm no longer doing regular duty as the Cupcake Lady, but that's how it shook out. If I could have the portable oven bronzed & still be functionable, I would - over the past 4+ years, it's gone totally above & beyond the call of duty!
Loving peeling away everything that's not our real home, leaving intact everything that is. When we turn our attention to the outside, am dreaming of a infusing a wonderful energy, like my friend, Violette, has done with her comfy cozy creative nest!
