Mim was in her element around children. Over forty years ago, she was the live-in nanny/housekeeper for the McLaughlins, a devout Catholic family in Mountainside, New Jersey, the rare job she got through an agency. She sure had her hands full - nine children whose mother had died a couple years before. It was a short-term gig, just a few months - up through the father's upcoming remarriage.
On her rare weekends home, Mim regaled us with tales of the brood, who were none too sure about this unconventional nanny. One day, an older boy fixed her with a steady, slightly suspicious gaze & said, "We've never had a housekeeper like YOU before." As Mim told it, she didn't miss a beat before shooting back, "And trust me - you never will again!"
