John & I have been without a working furnace since just before Thanksgiving. It wasn't a problem or a hassle. If anything, it brought us - and certainly the cats - closer together.
Thanks to lots of hot chocolate with plenty of marshmallows, two small & two large large space heaters, it was comfy working at the computer & John says the personal heater made working at his art table okay, while the living room remained bearable & our bedroom was downright cozy (even Jada, the once fully feral Mama cat, made her way up to the "Tower Bower"!).
After the furnace guy worked his magic in the basement, he figured out why we couldn't open the lamp standard of our front yard lamp post - we've been without pathway light for months. But we'll leave & the front door light OFF until after the holiday - having it on makes it easier to see the poinsettia wreath, but the lighting around the lush potted silk poinsettias looks more dramatic without competition.
Last night ~ after an early evening foray to B&N/Willow Grove, snugged on the couch, eating take-out Chinese food, listening to Prairie Home Companion's Christmas show, looking out at a clean & tidy & prettier-than-ever room, with its unconventional yet surprisingly effective lights & ornament display ~ we felt blessed beyond measure.
The room was warm, the cats weren't bothering us (they're pretty disgusted since we went vegetarian - nothing interesting for them to plunder), the music & laughter from St. Paul feeling pitch perfect & homey.
It's four days out until Christmas & our days are already more than merry & bright; they're calm & peaceful, too.
