Woke up this morning thinking, "Treasure cake!" Probably due to writing about the dirty dish dastardly deed - the two happened either on the same day or almost. I was around 13 or 14, Mim would have been 21 or 22.
Same cadre of tween & teen kids over at our house on the Top Lawn - behind where Lew & Mira live now. Mim was baking a cake for some reason & it was not going well. The top layer cake got all lumped as she was frosting. Looked pretty bad. So, Mim says, "Let's turn it into a treasure cake!"
We all thought, "Brilliant!" - not a one of us having a clue what that was.
Using her right hand's center & index fingers, Mim started "walking" around the top & sides of the cake, leaving tracks in the frosting. Was the treasure here? No. Was it there? No.
We were entranced.
She did this for a full two minutes, walking all over the cake. Finally, when we got to the point where we all expected "No," she let put a whoop & said, "YES!" and drove her index finger down down down into the cake.
Can still see our stunned amazed awed faces. Mim Lockhart - coolest of the cool.
